Things to do in Mount Maunganui - Bay Of Plenty - New Zealand

This stunning coastal paradise offers plenty of options for everyone to enjoy a perfect holiday break. From the beach to the mountains, fine dining to outdoor food markets, you’ll create special memories here you will never forget.

The Beach

Mount Maunganui Beach is the local’s pride and joy. People from all over New Zealand are moving to Mount Maunganui for a slice of the beach life. The white, sandy beach stretches for miles, and the popular surf break is a must for surfers.

Mount Maunganui beach has a number of Surf Life Saving clubs that patrol the beaches, ensuring safe places to swim and play.  Voted on Tripadvisor as one of the top 25 beaches in the world!

The Mount

No visit to Mt Maunganui is complete without a walk around or up The Mount. Its an easy 6km walk from the motel around the Mount and back on the Base Track. If you are feeling a little more energetic, walk to the top – especially great for the sunrise or sunset.

Flex Fitness

Flex Fitness offers Less Mills classes and full gym facilities. Baywatch Motor Inn has a  corporate membership which allows discounted entry for guests, 24/7!

Dining Out

There are some fantastic restaurants and cafes at The Mount, and if you are here on business we can arrange charge back facilities at some of them. A couple of our favourites are Dixie Browns, Fish Face, Bamboo, Mt Mellick, and Latitude 37. Yep the one with the flames outside and the flaming good menu.

Classic Flyers Museum and Cafe

Classic Flyers is a fantastic venue for conferencing as well as a top notch cafe. Classic Flyers Cafe and Aviation Museum is a must see for all. Great food as well as a unique display of Aeronautical history. The Owner of Classic Flyers has an obvious passion for aeroplanes.

Aircraft are on display in the massive Classic flyers Hangar, from Jet Fighters to Bi planes, to the romance of a classic DC3. Scenic Flights are available too that cruise over Mount Maunganui and Matakan Island, Glider Flights and even a Boeing Stearman Bi Plane! A Boeing Stearman was a WW2 pilot trainer. Less than 9,000 of these were built in the USA during the 30’s and 40’s. So a flight on this beauty is an amazing opportunity.
